The university's Percussion Ensemble, directed by Terry Longshore, will begin a program of music with Edgard Varese’s “Ionisation” — the oldest composition for percussive instruments — and end with a brand new composition by ensemble member Colin Malloy written for steel pans and electronic percussive instruments.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.
