  • Larry Dean Root went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, May 28, 2014 with his wife and daughters by his side. Larry was born in Elkton, Mo, June 18, 1940. He was soon adopted by Lester Pete and Pearl Root. He met the love of his life, Glenda Clifford, when he was 15.
Larry and Glenda were married June 18, 1958, on his 18th birthday. Larry always said that Glenda was the best birthday gift he could have and frequently called her good thing as quoted from Proverbs 18:22 - Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.
Larry served in the U.S. Army for six years. He spent a career of 30 years at Medford Corporation. After the mill closed, he obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Human Services from RCC. He spent his final working years in drug and alcohol counseling and custodial work in the Medford School District.
Larry first joined Sams Valley Community Church after receiving Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Medford and recently attended Community Bible Church of Central Point. Larry had a servant's heart and was always ready to help others in need whether chopping wood, lending a hand, or a listening ear. He especially enjoyed serving in many ministries throughout his life: Sunday school teacher, children's church, Good News Club, AWANA, and hosted home bible studies. Larry loved people, and he never met a stranger. Throughout his life he made memories with his family in the outdoors, woodworking, gardening, and reading the Bible.
Larry is survived by his wife, Glenda Root; daughters and sons-in-law, Margueritte and Don Hickman and Michelle and Joel Kaufman; and granddaughters, Mikala and Marissa. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Internment Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point; Memorial services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 649 Crater Lake Avenue, Medford.
