  • Carl Wayne Perdue, 78, a lifelong resident of the Rogue Valley, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Asante Community Hospital with his family by his side.
    At his request, no service is planned at this time.
    Carl was born in Medford, Ore. February 20, 1936 to James G. and Grace Ruth Boardman Perdue.
    After graduation from Talent High School in 1954, Carl entered the Army and served two years in Europe. On his return, he attended Southern Oregon College, married his high school sweetheart Wanda Oden at Trinity Episcopal Church, and started a family; a son, Bill, and daughter, Jody.
    He spent five years with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department before becoming a Journeyman Meterman for the Ashland Electric Department. He retired in 1995.
    Carl loved drag racing and was honored by being named "Sportsman of the Year" in 1981 and piloted "The Amazin' Turtle" to the Super 16 track championship in 1986.
    He was a 55-year member of Ashland Elks Lodge #944.
    Carl took great pleasure in his family, his friends from Talent High School, fellow workers, drag racers, and the community of special people at Camper's Cove at Hyatt Lake.
    He will be missed by many.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clyde Perdue; and his sister, Ruth Slack.
    He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Oden Perdue; his son William (Peggy Ventura); his daughter, Jody O'Connor (Dan); his sister, Irene Kingery; nephews Lonny Slack, Gary Slack, Jim Kingery, Jack Kingery, and Mike Oden; and nieces Teresa Kingery Olson and Linda Oden Doty.
