  • LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Medford Rogues earned their first win of the year with a 5-2 victory over the Cowlitz Black Bears Sunday night
    An 11-hit attack, combined with a strong season debut by Rogues starting pitcher Jackson Bertsch, carried the day for Medford (1-2).
    In the top of the second, the Rogues scored three runs on singles by Sam Fox and Clayton Meyer, followed by a double from Spencer Smith and a single by Yuto Kata. Cowlitz answered with single runs in the third and seventh before Medford put it away with two in the top of the ninth.
    Bertsch went six innings, scattering three hits and striking out five. Matt Loeffler went the final three innings for his first save of the season.
    Kata, now leading the WCL in hitting at .636, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Clayton Meyer was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Smith finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
