  • A punch in the face and retaliatory gunshot landed two Medford men in the Jackson County Jail over the weekend.
Jacob Allen Golden, a 21-year-old transient, remains in the jail today on charges of fourth-degree assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. His bail is set at $24,000, jail records show.
Allen Paul Norris, 72, was booked on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and reckless endangerment, but has since been released.
Medford police reported Golden started a fight with several people, including Norris, close to midnight Friday in the 1500 block of Bryant Street. During the dispute, Golden punched Norris in the face. Norris went inside his home nearby and retrieved a .38-caliber revolver. He then went back outside and fired a shot into the grass, an attempt to scare Golden.
Police said Norris was not acting in self-defense or in defense of someone else, but that he endangered several people in the area by firing the shot into the grass.
