Nick was born on September 28, 1931 to Daniel and Irene Nichols. Upon his birth, he joined six sisters and one brother. Nick was a Talent High School graduate, where he played football and basketball.

Nick joined the United States Navy and served aboard the hospital ship Repose during the Korean War.

In 1953 Nick married Reva Nordstrom. They were happily married for 55 years until her passing in 2008. Together they had two sons; Mark was born in 1954 and Rick was born two years later.

Until his retirement Nick worked for 39 years as a sander at Timber Products in Medford.

Nick enjoyed hunting, fishing, Oregon Ducks football, square dancing with the Twirlers Club, reading, watching westerns, and spending time with his family and friends. He had a great fondness for bread pudding, oatmeal raisin cookies, and pie.

A beautiful relationship with Alene Owsley brightened the last several years of Nick's life. She brought joy back to his life and a smile to his face.

Nick passed away June 12, 2014.

He is survived by his two sons Mark (Christy) and Rick (Tresa); his grandchildren Travis Nichols, Brooke (Scott) Weldon, and Ashley Nichols-Lee (Randall Lee); his eight beautiful great-grandchildren; his sisters, Frieda Lorton and Charlene Ventura; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Everybody who met Nick took an instant liking to him; he had many friends. He lived his life simply, honestly, and with integrity - a life well lived. He will be missed.

A service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Providence Hospice of Medford, 2033 Commerce Drive, Medford, Ore. 97504.
