  • Flynn leads Pilots to Legion sweep

  • ASHLAND — Matt Flynn delivered a walk-off single in the first game and pitched 41/3 innings of one-hit ball in the second to lead the Ashland Pilots to an American Legion A sweep at North Mountain Park Wednesday.

  • ASHLAND — Matt Flynn delivered a walk-off single in the first game and pitched 41/3 innings of one-hit ball in the second to lead the Ashland Pilots to an American Legion A sweep at North Mountain Park Wednesday.
    Flynn's bases-loaded single with two outs in the seventh plated Nick Sanderson from third and helped the Pilots take the opener 8-7. Then Flynn struck out three and surrendered only a single to help the Pilots prevail 11-1 in five innings.
    In the opener, Henley fought back from a 7-1 deficit, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to tie it up. But in the bottom of the inning the Pilots loaded the bases on two hits and a walk before Flynn ripped the game-winner to right-center.
    Flynn was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Jesse Carroll 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Aaron Scott 2-for-5 with five runs to lead Ashland (5-5).
    In the second game, Flynn dominated Henley and the Pilots took advantage of four errors by the visitors to pull away.
    Kyle Milgram was 1-for-4 with four RBIs and finished the game early with a two-run single in the fifth. Carroll had two stolen bases and scored twice, and Jose Perez was 1-for-2 with two runs.

    NORTH MEDFORD 5-12, WOLFPACK 2-3 — The North Medford Mavericks swept the local Wolfpack, 5-2 and 12-3, in an Area 4 clash at North Medford High.
    In the second game, Marcus Brammell went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored for the Mavericks (3-3). Dakota Adams was 3-for-4 with three runs and Kasey Buchanan 2-for-4.
    For the Wolfpack, Jonathan Wilson, WIll Weaver, Joe Hammonds and Destin Adams all had two hits.
    In the opener, Brammell and Adams had RBI singles in the first inning.

    CENTRAL POINT 13-7, NORTH HUMBOLDT 3-5 — At Central Point, Neil Bastendorff had three hits in the first game and Dylan Morgan helped Central Point complete the sweep with two hits in Game 2 at Anhorn Field.
    Bastendorff was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the opener, while Hayden Deuel, Gunnar Asher, Jacob Swartwout and Jace Godley added two hits apiece for the Comets (5-3). Swartwout was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, Asher 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs and Godley 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
    In the second game, Central Point scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead for good, 5-2. Morgan was 2-for-2 with a double and scored twice.
