  • Despite a stellar performance by Rogues starter Jeff Hardy, Medford had to stave off disaster late in a 4-3 victory over Cowlitz at Harry & David Field on Saturday.
Hardy allowed no hits, no runs and two walks and struck out eight in seven innings to earn his first victory of the year. Three relievers finished and gave up two hits and three runs.
Adonis Morrison finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Medford, which led 3-0 before the Black Bears (7-7) found some offense late with Hardy out.
Rogues reliever Matt Loeffler, who entered with his team leading 4-2 in the top of the ninth, hit the first two batters he faced before Shane Quarterley replaced him. With runners on second and third and one out, the Black Bears' Joey Greco came home on an RBI groundout before a putout finally ended things.
First-place Medford (9-3) can go for the three-game series sweep tonight at 6:35 p.m.
