GRANTS PASS — Jockeys Pablo Madrigal and Humberto Martinez both took a pair of checkered flags on Sunday at Grants Pass Downs.

Madrigal's second victory came atop Seattle Diner in the Red Truitt Memorial, one of two featured races on the afternoon.

It was the second weekend in a row Seattle Diner was a winner at Grants Pass Downs and third in five starts.

Madrigal also won the day's opening race with Payette.

Martinez grabbed victories in the second race — atop Swiss Ace — and eighth race with Mary Jeanene.

The wins for Madrigal and Martinez put them in a tie with Kassie Guglielmino — who won with Ashlee Echo in the third race — for the season lead with six.

Jose Rivera Jr. was triumphant with Cascadian's Storey in the fifth race, the Miss Josephine County Purse. It was the second victory in as many weeks for Cascadian's Storey and third win in four tries at GPD.

Grants Pass Downs increased its attendance by 20 percent and money bet by 17 percent compared to last year with 2,015 spectators and a handle of $31,701.

Racing resumes Saturday on Senior Citizens Day, when entry is free for everyone ages 60 and older. Gates open at noon and the post time is at 1 p.m.

Sunday is Ladies Hat Day. Admission is free for women wearing hats, excluding baseball caps.
