  • Former North Medford standout Braden Shipley was chosen to represent Team USA in the Futures Game.
Shipley, a right-hander in the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization, was one of 50 prospects picked for the contest, which will be played July 13 during the All-Star Weekend at Target Field in Minnesota.
The 16th annual Futures contest features the best prospects in baseball divided into a World team and an American squad. ESPN ranked the 24-year-old Shipley as the No. 23 prospect last month.
Shipley, who was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, was one of 10 U.S. pitchers selected for the game.
Shipley has split the season between low-A South Bend and high-A Visalia after suffering a minor shoulder injury late in spring training. He is 5-3 with a 3.41 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 711/3 innings pitched in 12 starts.
