James J. O'Gara
James J. O'Gara, Papa Jim, 86 of Medford, Ore., hung up his hat one more time, surrounded by his family and rejoined his beloved wife June 21, 2014 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 21, 1928 in San Bernardino, Calif. to James and Clarice O'Gara.
Jim grew up in San Antonio, Texas and joined the navy in 1945 serving aboard the USS Rowan. During his tour he travelled the South Pacific from Australia to Japan. After leaving the Navy he returned to California where he met and married Maureen O'Donnell in November 1951. After owning his own trucking company for several years, James and Maureen moved to Medford in 1964. There, he worked in car sales for Dodge Center until the late 1970's before owning and operating his own used car lot in Central Point. After the death of his wife Maureen, Jim went to work long haul truck driving.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen in March 1986; parents; sisters, Clarice and Theresa, and brother, Donald.
James is survived by his sisters, Margaret Blakely of Medford, Ore., Mary Catherine Flaherty of Lakewood, Calif.; brother, Harold O'Gara of Sahurita, Ariz.; son, Steven O'Gara (Kim) of Medford; daughter, Patricia O'Gara-Huffman (Doug) of Central Point; Granddaughter Amanda Willems (Dan) of Travis Air Force Base, Vacaville, Calif., and great-grandson Patrick Brian Willems.
A private memorial service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Any memorials in honor of Papa Jim can be made to SoHumane, Friends of the Animal Shelter or Hope Equestrian Center.
Papa Jim is loved and will be missed.
