Mother's passing two years ago in April 2012 left us with her two indoor-only elder cats. We had three cats of our own so were unable to take them and could find no home for them. We turned to CATS, who took them in, kept them for many months until they found a senior in need of furry companions adopting both together.
It will be a terrible loss for our community if we allow CATS, a worthy nonprofit volunteer group, to go out of business. We have made our donation, we challenge the rest of the community to donate whatever they can, even if it's only a dollar, as well as cat products as mentioned in the article — whatever you can. They've helped so many, it is our turn to help them! — J.D. and D.A. Waite, Medford
There is no IRS "scandal," other than this rabid witch hunt by congressional Republicans to create one in voters' minds. These tea party groups are frauds claiming tax exemption status as "social welfare" organizations. They constantly express dislike for anything related to "social," or "welfare," so we know they are not only frauds, but they are also mocking and abusing our tax system.
The real scandal is that the tax law concerning these groups had one word mysteriously changed, years after the law was written. That change from "exclusively" to "primarily" (for the public welfare) opened the door to these frauds and now allows this kind of abuse. We should stop it now.
The U.S. is $16 trillion in debt. Do we want it paid down or not? The IRS was doing its job. We should let them do it. We should also note that these groups were not prevented from doing what they wanted to do; this was just about their tax status.
There is also plenty of evidence that the IRS "targeted" liberal groups with the same zeal. So, this phony, manufactured "scandal" is just one more cynical, pathetic attempt to smear a decent president. — Darryl Edington, Medford
