    SO Speedway to host second leg of Speedweek NW

  • WHITE CITY — The Southern Oregon Speedway will take its turn with Speedweek Northwest when the American Sprint Car Series comes to town on Monday.
    It will be the second appearance for Speedweek Northwest at the Speedway, with Andy Forsberg dominating the competition the first time around.
    Dozens of teams from all over the Western United States will compete in the event.
    In the 16-year history of Speedweek Northwest there have been 16 events held at the Speedway with 11 different feature winners. Brent Kaeding tops the list at four victories, while Shane Stewart and Roger Crockett are the only other repeat winners with two each. Drivers that have won once include Henry Van Dam, Travis Rilat, Jonathan Allard, Jesse Hockett, Danny Horner, Steve Kent, Brad Furr, and Shawna Wilskey.
    In the last 16 editions of Speedweek Northwest there have been nine different champions. Steve Kent and Roger Crockett are tied with four apiece while Brent Kaeding has two. Six drivers have been claimed champion once, with Brad Furr, Jesse Hockett, Bud Kaeding, Kyle Larson, Shane Stewart and Mitch Olson each taking a title.
    When it comes to ASCS-Northwest sanctioned events at the Speedway, nine have occurred with Roger Crockett the only driver to win more than once. Crockett has two wins, including a victory in 2009, as well as last year's Speedweek Northwest event. The list of victors making a single trip to victory lane includes Shane Stewart, Henry Van Dam, Travis Rilat, Dan Menne, Jesse Hockett, Jonathan Allard and, most recently, Forsberg back on May 22nd.
    Tickets for the event cost $22.50 for adults, while seniors/juniors/military get in for $20.50. Cost for children ages 6-12 is $6.50, with children children ages 5-under being admitted free of charge.
    Heading into the Speedweek there have been six completed events with ASCS-Northwest in 2014, producing five different winners. Seth Bergman leads in wins with two, while Andy Forsberg, Jared Peterson, J.J. Hickle, and Henry Van Dam have all managed to pick up victories. In the points battle, Vern Wheeler Jr. leads by just two points over Colin Baker entering the first round of Speedweek.
    Speedweek Northwest begins today at Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka, Calif.
