OSP investigates poaching after decapitated deer head found

A decapitated deer head with the skull cap and antlers cut off was found on Antioch Road last week, opening an Oregon State Police investigation into deer poaching in the area.

OSP's Fish & Wildlife Division opened the case after an area resident found the head near milepost 10 of Antioch Road on July 2. OSP said evidence at the scene indicates the animal had recently been killed elsewhere, somewhere in the East Evans Creek or Sams Valley area, and butchered. Legs and other parts of the carcass had been dumped at the site.

A reward is being offered through the Oregon Hunters Association's Turn in Poachers program for any information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Sgt. Kirk Meyer at 541-618-7944 or the TIP hotline at 1-800-452-7888. Callers can remain anonymous.
