2SECOND FRIDAY ART: No, your calendar is not off, Ashland First Friday Art Walk is being held on the second Friday this month after making way for the Fourth of July last week. Galleries will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Ashland's downtown and Railroad District. Walkers will have a chance to meet the artists, see art demonstrations, hear live music and enjoy wine and other refreshments at some of the galleries.
3JUST FOR KIDS: Earn some parent cred and take the kiddies to the 48th annual Children's Festival, which runs 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Britt Gardens in Jacksonville. Thousands of kids will descend on the hill for activities such as candle-making, pottery, woodworking, puppet making, sand art and easel art. Don't miss the litter-eating dragons Rosabelle, Pebbles and Lulu or the storytelling on the hill by local celebrities.
4LAVENDER LIVING: Your nose and eyes will thank you when you take in the Oregon Lavender Festival Tour, locally featuring lavender farms in the Applegate and Central Point/Jacksonville area. The farms offer U-pick lavender flowers, lavender products and crafts, essential oil distillation and potted lavender plants. The event runs today through Sunday, with most farms opening at 9 or 10 a.m. For more details, check out the festival's website at http://southernoregonlavendertrail.com.
5ALL ABOARD FOR FUN: Train rides will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Medford's Railroad Park at Table Rock Road and Berrydale Avenue. All ages can ride on steam and diesel trains and motorcars. While you're there, check out the antique telegraph service and exhibits of full-sized and miniature trains, model-railroad layouts and historical railroad equipment. Former Southern Pacific employees will discuss their experiences between 1 and 3 p.m.
