  • The latest in a series of intentionally set fires burned a small patch of brush in an alley off West 10th Street Saturday morning, fire officials said.
Medford Fire-Rescue responded at 4:42 a.m. Saturday to an alley behind 1021 W. 10th St., where flames burning in vegetation threatened a wooden fence. Crews made short work of the blaze and no one was hurt.
It was the sixth fire believed to have been set by the same person in a four-day span. Between 4:30 and 6:38 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to four fires in west Medford — two on Holly Street, and two near Pennsylvania Avenue and Grape Street. All were set in alleys and did minor damage to vegetation and fences or sheds.
A fifth fire was reported at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the alley behind 1704 W. Main St., just down the street from the Black Bird Shopping Center.
Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call Detective Tony Young of the Medford police at 541-774-2230.
"Please keep your eyes peeled for anyone acting suspicious in your neighborhood," a Medford police Facebook message read. "We need to catch whomever is doing this."
