  • The DeMarini Post 20 Dirt Bags American Legion AAA baseball team swept the Medford Mustangs in a doubleheader at Harry & David Field, winning both games, 7-6.
    In the opener, DeMarini's Sam Swenson hit the go-ahead single to left field to score George Mendazona from second base with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.
    Earlier, Medford's Eric Carlson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the fourth. Austin Zavala singled to score Taylor Raff and Micah Brown tied the contest at 6 with his hit to bring home Zavala in the fifth.
    Zavala, Brown, Bryce Rogan and Christian Gillis all had two hits for the Mustangs (19-13) in Game 1. Only two of the seven runs that starting pitcher Jordan Ragan allowed were earned, and he finished with five strikeouts and two walks.
    Jarett Peterson smashed a three-run homer in the fifth with two outs for the Dirt Bags.
    In Game 2, DeMarini rallied with four two-out runs in the seventh inning.
    In the bottom of the seventh, Gillis hit a double to plate Raff before scoring on a pinch hit single by Josh Berman. Brown flew out to right field to end the game.
    Gillis finished with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.

    NORTH MEDFORD 9-12, ASHLAND 1-2 — The North Medford Mavericks piled up 25 hits in an Area 4 sweep at North Medford High.
    In the opener, North Medford's Larson Kindreich pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk. He, Tate Cowden, Honus Kindreich and Marcus Brammell all finished with two hits.
    In Game 2, Berry Hunt threw a two-hitter with four strikeouts and a walk for the Mavericks (18-13, 6-4 Area 4). Mason Barone went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored and Kacey Buchanan, Greyson Wolff, Dakota Adams and Honus Kindreich all had two hits.

    MEDFORD 4, VICTORIA 1 — At Victoria, B.C., Rogues starter Nathan Kuchta allowed five hits, one run and one walk and struck out eight in 81/3 innings and teammate Nathan Etheridge went 3-for-3 with a solo home run.
    Spencer Smith finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and Yuto Kata went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Medford (17-13), which led throughout against Victoria (13-17).
