  • A small fire that started at a Medford apartment complex this afternoon could be the latest in an ongoing spree of fires set by a serial arsonist.
The fire was reported at 1 p.m. in an alley near 220 Ivy St., set at the base of some apartments. The fire was extinguished quickly and did not spread. Medford police and fire agencies are on scene investigating. No one was hurt.
If the fire's cause does turn out to be arson, it would be the 18th suspected incident in a spree police believe started June 25 with the leveling of a historic building and warehouse on 220 N. Fir St. Most of the fires have been set in alleys during the dawn hours.
We will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
