  • Victor Garcia smashed his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the third inning, and the Medford Rogues recorded a 6-2 victory in the rubber match of their three-game West Coast League baseball series with the Walla Walla at Harry & David Field on Thursday.
Rogues starting pitcher Jackson Bertsch was excellent on the mound through seven innings, allowing two earned runs — both solo home runs — on seven hits with just one walk. He also struck out seven.
Bertsch pitched shutout ball until the Sweets (19-20 WCL) broke though with a solo homer by Andrew Mendenhall with two outs in the top of the sixth. Before Bertsch was able to record an out in the top of the eighth, Jarod Gonzales hit Walla Walla's other solo shot.
The Rogues (21-18 WCL) tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, the first on Tucker Campbell's sacrifice fly that scored Clayton Meyer, followed by Spencer Smith's run-scoring single that brough home Joey Morgan.
Smith finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Meyer was 3-for-4 to pace the Medford attack.
The Sweets were led by Mendenhall's 2-for-4 effort.

NORTH MEDFORD 4-7, SOUTH MEDFORD 1-6 — North Medford's Dakota Adams supplied a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to thwart a South Medford rally and send the Mavericks to an Area 4 doubleheader sweep at North Medford High School.
North Medford (23-17, 11-5 Area 4) held a 5-1 lead heading into the final inning of Game 2 but the Colts rallied with five runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Ben Curry after Berry Hunt had relieved Josh Berman with the bases loaded.
Berman helped his cause by reaching on an error in the bottom of the seventh and, after a sacrifice bunt, Marcus Brammel reached on an error to put the winning run on base. With two outs, Adams came through with the game-winner.
Jordan Ragan went 2-for-3 with one run and Berman scored twice in Game 2, with Ragan also earning the opening-game win after allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and five walks in six innings.
Tate Cowden and Greyson Wolff each were 2-for-3 with one RBI in Game 1.
