The Gerber family moved to the Illinois Valley in 1973 intending to grow wine grapes and establish a winery. At that time, no vineyards existed in the valley, and no wineries were in the Rogue Appellation. Foris Vineyards Winery farms over 130 acres of estate vineyards on what were historically beef cattle ranches. Foris is the Pacific Northwest's most southern winery, located a short distance from the coast. Because of the large day to night temperature swings, the estate vineyards excel with the Alsatian and Burgundian varietals. There is a noticeable absence of glitz, but are definitely worth the journey.
