An architect of the post-bop sound, pianist Herbie Hancock returns to the Britt hillside with his quartet at 7:30 p.m. June 18. He was here in 2004 with Dave Holland, Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade.
Hancock has performed since 1960, playing with Miles Davis for five years as he built his solo career, which has touched on every development in acoustic and electronic jazz, and R&B, promoters claim.
His Web site www.herbiehancock.com has a complete biography; information about his latest recording and movie project, “Possibilities,” and even his recommendations for favorite products, should you happen to be in the market for a concert-quality piano or synthesizer.
Steve Smith and Vital Information, a jazz-fusion quartet, open for Hancock. The all-star lineup of Steve Smith on drums, Tom Coster on keyboards, Baron Browne on bass and Vinny Valentino on guitar serve up a veritable banquet of sounds. Catch their latest creation, Vitalization, released earlier this month and learn about their history at www.vitalinformation.com.
