Contemporary jazz trumpeter Chris Botti performed at Britt last year, and the native Oregonian is back this year at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30.
Botti was born in Portland and grew up in Corvallis, according to the biography on his Web site, www.chrisbotti.com. (The site is also a treasure trove of tidbits about his trumpet, trivia from his road manager's blog and all manner of other random Botti facts.) His mother was a piano teacher and he studied trumpet with teachers in the Northwest, Indiana and New York.
He was a key sideman on Paul Simon's 1990 world tour and in 2000 joined Sting for two years of touring. He has also appeared in the band on albums for dozens of varied performers, and performed on compilations and soundtracks, including on film scores he has composed.
His latest album, "To Love Again," is a collection of pop jazz standards and duets with vocalists.
A vocalist, Chiara Civello, an Italian singer-songwriter and pianist, opens the show.
Civello was just 16 when she started singing professionally and won a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. She's worked with Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Burt Bacharach, James Taylor and others writing music and singing background.
Tickets cost $47 for reserved seats, $29 for lawn seats and $19 for seats for children 12 and younger.
