A celebration of life for James VanderSteen, Jr., 78, of Medford, Ore, who passed away September 24, 2012, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012, at the Elks Lodge, 202 N. Central, Medford, Ore., Wes Ellis will officiate.

James was born August 26, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James and Alice VanderSteen. He moved to Medford, Ore. in 1948.

He received an associates degree in marketing. He was assistant superintendent at Fluher's Bakery for 21 years and owned Jim's Fire Equipment for 21 years.

He married Carolyn Ellis on June 1, 1963, in Central Point, Ore. He belonged to the Moose Lodge, American Legion, and the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and traveling.

James is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons, James P. VanderSteen, and Michael S. VanderSteen; sisters, Gloria Priem, Roseburg, Ore., and Carolyn Hartman, Eugene Ore.; four grandchildren; Brittany, Caleb, Kinsey, and Brandon, and two great grandchildren; Damion and Christian.
