Craig Contreras, South Medford football
In just his second start since taking over as the starter because of injury, the sophomore was 15 of 29 for 258 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers downed Beaverton 28-14 in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs. His TD strikes were 83 and 32 yards.

Lewy Kurach, Ashland boys water polo
Kurach paced the Grizzlies to their second straight state championship in an 8-5 victory over West Albany. Ashland scored four goals in the final quarter, including the final three by Kurach. He finished with five goals and two assists and was first-team all-state.

Jose Mendez, Phoenix boys soccer
The junior center midfielder scored his eighth goal in five games as the Pirates defeated Ontario, 1-0 in overtime, to advance to the Class 4A state semifinals. His score came six minutes into the extra session from 6 yards out.

Amber Moore, St. Mary’s girls soccer
The senior midfielder scored the winning goal in overtime as St. Mary’s defeated Catlin Gabel, 2-1, to advance to the Class 3A/2A/1A state semifinals. Moore’s score came eight minutes into OT on a corner kick she bumped into the goal with her hip.

Brandon Williams, Cascade Christian football
The senior running back rushed for four touchdowns and 190 yards as the Challengers defeated Vale, 35-7, in the first round of the Class 3A/2A/1A state playoffs. Williams also caught three pass for 72 yards and made five tackles from his safety position.
