  • Beloved Pastor for over 40 years
    1926 to 2012
    On November 29, 2012, Bob Murphy went to be with his loving Savior, Jesus Christ. Bob was born in Boston, Mass., April 9, 1926. He attended Boston University followed by the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, Calif. After graduating, Bob went door to door in Hayward, Calif. to meet people interested in starting a new church in the area. This church grew to several hundred people as Bob was well-liked in the community. During this time he met and married Audrey, who passed away April 7, 2012. They were married for 59 years. Bob also helped develop Eastwood Baptist in Medford, Ore.; First Baptist Church of St. Paul, Minn.; and First Baptist Church of Sacramento, Calif. He was gifted in the ability to love, encourage and teach others about Jesus.
    While living in Medford, Bob spoke on a weekly radio program and devoted time to the juvenile hall students. He also ministered at the Veterans Domiciliary and with students at Southern Oregon University. He also held leadership positions in the downtown regions of St. Paul and Sacramento. Investing in others and sharing God's love was his priority.
    Bob is survived by his three children, Reid Murphy, of Eagle Point, Rick Murphy, of Johnstown, Colo., and Karen Vande Vegte, of San Diego, Calif. He also has eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at Eastwood Baptist Church Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. All who would like to celebrate his life are welcome.
