Oregon's public school districts received the first of two 2013 Common School Fund payments of roughly $26.5 million last week, state officials reported.
The payment distributed Jan. 24 was up about 10 percent from the January 2012 distribution.
Medford School District got $607,600. Central Point got $213,200. Eagle Point got $196,175. Ashland got $129,500. Phoenix-Talent got $128,400.
Rogue River got $43,725. Prospect got $11,900. Butte Falls got $6,737.
Pinehurst got $1,953.
The State Land Board, composed of the Governor, Secretary of State and State Treasurer, oversees the fund, which was established at statehood to provide funding from state lands for Oregon's "common" — or public — schools.
The Department of State Lands transmits funds each December and June to the Department of Education for distribution to the state's 197 school districts. The population of children ages 4-20 determines each county's share of the earnings.
