Group hopes to boost Main Street

The Heart of Medford Association will host a series of free workshops on strengthening Main Street Monday, Feb. 11, and Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Higher Education Center, room 129.

Known as "Main Street Boot Camp," the presentations cover creating an organization to coordinate downtown revitalization, encouraging good design, planning promotions, and understanding economic forces affecting Main Street.

The speakers are Sheri Stuart, coordinator of Oregon Main Street, a State Historic Preservation Office program that strives to preserve and revitalize traditional business districts; and Scott Day, principal of Urban Development Services, a Texas firm that specializes in such revitalization.

Workshop organizers say the presentations are helpful for planners, officials, property and business owners, civic groups and the public. Those interested in attending must pre-register at by Feb 6.

Registration takes place at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11. The workshops will start after a 3 p.m. introductory session. The workshops will continue at 8 a.m. Tuesday and conclude at 12:15 p.m.
