Eva Sarah-Elizabeth Ashenhurst

Eva Sarah-Elizabeth, of Medford, Ore., (formerly of Eugene, Ore.) passed away January 21, 2013 of age-related causes. She was 95.


Eva was born December 12, 1917 in Divide, Saskatchewan, Canada to Laura and William Phipps. She grew up in Fraser, Iowa and graduated from Boone High School in Boone, Iowa.


On November 25, 1936 she married the love of her life, Raymond James Ashenhurst. They were married for 63 years before he passed away in 2000. Her first job was with Ma Bell in San Francisco, Calif. while her husband served in World War II in the Navy. During their married life they lived in Iowa, Ohio, Maine, Missouri, and Alberta, Canada before settling in Eugene, Ore. in 1965. Eva worked at Lane Community College in Financial Aid in Eugene for 15 years until she retired in 1980. She was an avid swimmer and her favorite hobbies were sewing, needlepoint, doll-making, playing the organ and traveling. She moved to Medford, Ore. following the death of her husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Patty (Gordon) Renskers of Medford, Ore.; son, Harry (Daniele) Ashenhurst of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Debbie (Perry) Andrews, Matt (Sheila) Thomas, Jane (Adam) Abramson, Andrew (Beth) Seal, and Sandy (John) Gildersleeve; and great-grandchildren Jeffrey, Meghan, Melissa, Skylar, Daniel, Sadie Mae, Milo, and Julia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; brothers, Albert, Leonard, and Clifford; and sisters, Myrtle and Mildred.

Eva was laid to rest Friday, January 25, 2013 at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene, Ore. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 7, 2013 at the Community of Christ Church, 2320 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore. All who knew her are invited to attend. She will be forever missed by so many who loved her.
