  • SALT CREATIONS
    (grades 1 through 6)
    Supplies:
    Newspaper
    Small jar with lid
    Spoon
    Pencil and/or toothpick
    Large tray
    Plastic cup
    Candle (optional)
    Scissors
    Tissue Paper and ribbon
    For each color of salt:
    1/2 cup of salt
    Food coloring
    zippered bags
    Directions:
    1. Pour salt into zippered bag and add drops of food coloring
    2. Close bag tightly, and use your fingers to mix the color into the salt
    3. Pour salt in a thin layer on the newspaper and allow to dry. Do this for each color
    4. Pour back into zippered bags
    Use spoon to layer different colors into jars. Repeat until you reach top of jar
    Use the pencil or toothpick to create cool effects
    Once done, have a grownup melt wax over the top layer before putting on lid.
    Place tissue paper over top of lid and secure with a ribbon tied into a bow
    Cut away excess and use scissors to curl ends of ribbons
