About Eagle Point

Eagle Point, established in 1853, was named for a prominent rocky cliff east of the townsite that was a popular nesting place for eagles in pioneer times, county records state. Although the first round of settlers abandoned the site during the Rogue Indian Wars, they returned in the late 1850s. Its post office, carrying the Eagle Point name suggested by pioneer John Mathews, was established in 1872.
