COASTWIDE - Good ocean conditions will greet bottomfishers and salmon fishers for Memorial Day weekend. Today's seas will kick up to about 7 feet in the afternoon, but look for calm surf and showers Saturday and low surf and clouds Sunday. Don't worry about the rain; get some rain gear and double up salmon fishing and bottomfishing through the weekend.

COASTWIDE - Good ocean conditions will greet bottomfishers and salmon fishers today and Saturday, but 25-knot winds and 10-foot seas are forecast for Sunday. That creates a good chance to head over the bar for lingcod and black rockfish, but not as good for chinook.

COASTWIDE - Excellent ocean and tide conditions await ocean anglers and clammers who want to spend Mother's Day on the South Coast. Forecast are nearly flat seas today and small, rolling swells through the weekend. That should bode well for those fishing black rockfish, lingcod, chinook salmon and even a few halibut, whose season began last week amid poor ocean conditions.

COASTWIDE - A small-craft advisory is in effect on the south coast through tonight, then the 25-knot winds will start to subside Saturday. Fishing conditions look good for Sunday and even better for Monday along the coast. That should give salmon anglers their first shot at chinook during the ocean recreational season that opened Wednesday.

COASTWIDE - Five-knot winds and mellow swells will greet ocean anglers today and Saturday, then a cold front will boost the north winds but still keep the swells to a manageable 5 feet Sunday south of Cape Blanco. That's good news for coastal anglers looking for another hot weekend of bottomfishing, particularly for those targeting lingcod on near-shore reefs and just off kelp beds. Black, white and red jigs have been working best.

COASTWIDE - The calm seas and flat waves that have contributed to excellent bottomfishing the past two weeks are over for now. Forecasts call for 25-knot winds and seas of 9 to 11 feet high through the weekend, which should be more than enough to blow bottomfishers back to port. And that's too bad, because near-shore lingcod fishing has been so good at places such as Brookings and Gold Beach that anglers were actually releasing keeper-sized lings in hopes of catching even bigger ones.

COASTWIDE - Calm seas and light winds have made for excellent early-season jigging for rockfish and lingcod along near-shore reefs. Good ocean fishing conditions are forecast through the Easter weekend, with winds not expected to top 10 knots until early next week. Near-shore ling fishing has been very good at Brookings and Gold Beach. Black, white and red jigs should work best.
