Dorothy Mae Cooper Dorothy Mae Cooper, 89, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at her home. Arrangements will be announced by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory. Michael H. Longie The memorial service for Michael H. Longie will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford. The Rev. Carmelo Mifsud will officiate. Mr. Longie, 48, of Medford, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) in Medford. He was born Aug. 15, 1953, in Minot, N.D. He grew up in Medford and received an associate's degree from Lane Community College in Eugene. He moved back to the Rogue Valley five years ago from Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Longie was a musician and a computer expert. He worked for the Indian Health Service in Portland and in Phoenix, Ariz., and was about to accept a position in Santa Fe, N.M. He also had his own computer consulting business. Most recently, he worked for the Ashland School District. He was a member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Tribe, Belcourt, N.D. Mr. Longie enjoyed music. He was a songwriter and played guitar with several local bands. Survivors include his father, George Longie, Medford; and two brothers, Keith and Bryan, both Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary A. (Lilly) Longie. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors. Charles H. Tracy The graveside service for Charles H. Tracy will be at 1 p.m. today at Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland. The Rev. Ray Orndoff of Clay Street Community Church will officiate. Mr. Tracy, 90, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at his home. He was born July 11, 1911, in Sacramento, Calif. He graduated from high school in Westwood, Calif. On July 4, 1931, in Klamath Falls, he married Bernetta Wright, who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1962. Mr. Tracy was a yardman for Southern Pacific Railroad for 35 years, both in Klamath Falls and in Ashland. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Mr. Tracy enjoyed song writing. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Louise Charlotte, Klamath Falls; two sons, Glenn, Klamath Falls, and Richard, New Orleans, La.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Thomas Morell Shepherd The memorial service for Thomas Morell Shepherd will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Shady Cove. Brother Gerald Hajek will officiate. Mr. Shepherd, 67, of White City, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Denver, a son of Virgil Vern and Sara Anna (Sullivan) Shepherd. On July 29, 1962, in San Gabriel, Calif., he married Jane Pina, who survives. He lived in California from age 3 until 1986, when he moved to Ashland to be closer to his mother. Mr. Shepherd was a machinist for NASA, making parts for aircraft and the space probe Mariner, which carried back some of the first photographs of the moon. He later owned a janitorial business. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. Shepherd enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Jim, Tom Jr., and Karl; a sister, Carolyn Draine; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford. Harmon Henry Yeary Harmon Henry Yeary, 86, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at his home. Arrangements will be announced by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory. Leonard Earl Rhyner Leonard Earl Rhyner, 77, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at his home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Dunn House, P.O. Box 819, Medford, OR 97501, or to Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501. He was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Chehalis, Wash., a son of Albert Emil and Clara Ann Rhyner. On July 8, 1966, in Juneau, Alaska, he married Angela "Angie" C. Moore, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Olympia, Wash. Mr. Rhyner worked for Wasson's Electronics in Portland, retiring in 1971. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Rhyner was a musician and had been in the Musician's Union. He enjoyed music, politics and cooking. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Steven, Juneau, Alaska, and Jeffrey, Sitka, Alaska; two daughters, Melody Chernikoff, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jaqueline Morris, Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Teresa Miller, Kelly Rhyner and Lori Jones; two sisters, Hazel Roselius and Evelyn Blome; and three brothers, George, William and Richard. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory. Mary Gertrude Walton Mary Gertrude Walton, 86, of Talent, died Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001) at a foster care home in Phoenix. No service is planned. She was born July 3, 1915, in Pilot Butte, the daughter of Nathan B. Beach and Mary Harriet Frost. On Oct. 9, 1940, in Reno, Nev., she married John "Jack" Walton, who died in 1996. She moved to Talent in 1973 from Gold Hill. Mrs. Walton owned and operated a hair styling salon in Winston during the 1960s. She enjoyed homemaking and sewing. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Breazeal, Corvallis; a brother, Delbert Yordy, Tulelake, Calif.; twin grandsons; and two step-grandsons. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland. Edith Fern Sheppard Edith Fern Sheppard, 85, of Butte Falls, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) in Medford. Private interment will be in Butte Falls Cemetery. She was born Edith Fern Hilton on Jan. 1, 1916, in Kearney, Neb., a daughter of George William and Rachel Catherine (Studebaker) Hilton. On Sept. 25, 1931, in Medford, she married Ray A. Sheppard, who died in 1976. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1937. Mrs. Sheppard was the first cafeteria cook for Butte Falls School District No. 91, where she worked for 34 years, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, find-a-word books and children. Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Ellefson, Butte Falls, and Rayetta Butcher, Klamath Falls; a son Glenn E., Yakima, Wash.; a sister, Dorothy Christain, Grants Pass; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia and Thelma; and a brother, Floyd. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford. Charles E. Cooper Charles E.
