Russell Donald Thompson The funeral service for Russell Donald Thompson will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Alice G. Knotts of Talent United Methodist Church and Pastor Pete Slusher of Community Bible Church in Central Point will officiate. Mr. Thompson, 88, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at his home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 82, Medford, OR 97501. He was born June 24, 1913, in Kingsley, Iowa. He moved to the Rogue Valley 54 years ago from Iowa. On May 9, 1941, he married Dorothy L. Scobie, who died in 1981. On April 16, 1995, in Talent, he married Cora E. Thompson, who died in 2001. Mr. Thompson was a custodian for Central Point School District No. 6 for several years, retiring in 1978. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Thompson received the Community Spirit Award for his volunteer work at senior citizen centers in Medford, Central Point and Talent. He was a member of the Talent United Methodist Church and the Community Bible Church in Central Point. Mr. Thompson enjoyed singing, woodworking and spending time with his family. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Pfaff and Darlene Johnson, both Central Point; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. James L. Akins The funeral service for James L. Akins will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pastor Dan O'Donnell of Rogue Valley Community Church will officiate. Mr. Akins, 78, of Central Point, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at his home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504. He was born April 15, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of Columbus Robert and Maggie May (Combs) Akins. On Jan. 15, 1946, in Reno, Nev., he married Anita LaVonne Lunsford, who died in 1994. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1965 from Eugene. Mr. Akins worked for Vanderlip Logging in Ashland from 1965 to 1974, when he retired from the logging industry. He also owned the Shasta View Grocery Store in Klamath Falls and B & C Pool Service in Medford. He retired in 1989. During World War II, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Silver and Bronze Stars. Mr. Akins was a member of Rogue River Community Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra L. Nelson, Gold Hill, and Janet L. Malvini, Medford; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Alexis Reyann Bradshaw Alexis Reyann Bradshaw, infant daughter of Stephanie Pardue and Wayne Bradshaw of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. The memorial service will be held next week. Alexis was born Sept. 5, 2001, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a brother, Christian Fenn, Grants Pass; her grandparents, Charles and Janet Simons, Grants Pass, and Robert and Carol Bradshaw, Merlin; her great-grandparents, Clifford Bradshaw, Grants Pass, Linda and Grover Volkman, Grants Pass, and Mabel and Larry Simons, Grants Pass. Arrangements: Lundberg's L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass. Dorothy Mae Cooper Dorothy Mae Cooper, 89, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at her home. The memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Conrad Cemetery, Conrad, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Manor Foundation, Transportation Fund, 1200 Mira Mar, Medford, OR 97504. She was born April 30, 1912, in Waterloo, Iowa, a daughter of Carl W. and Olive E. (Shannon) Hitchcock. On June 8, 1931, in Waterloo, she married Ray Cooper, who died in 1992. She moved to Rogue Valley Manor in 1992 from California. Mrs. Cooper enjoyed the Oregon fall colors, her friendships, playing bridge and listening to music. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Pederson, Reno, Nev.; a son, John Cooper, Arcata, Calif.; a sister, Helen Loomis, Bethlehem, Pa.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her companion, Gene Waler. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory. Homer Glenn Browning Homer Glenn Browning, 80, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Abbey Funeral, Medford. Dorothy Jeane Frostrom Dorothy Jeane Frostrom, 79, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at her home. Arrangements will be announced by Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point. Alfred Schaeffer Alfred Schaeffer, 93, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.
