Strong start not enough for SOU
ASHLAND The Western Baptist College womens basketball team used a 24-9 run to erase a seven-point deficit en route to a 74-64 Cascade Conference victory over Southern Oregon
University at McNeal Pavilion Friday night.
The Raiders (3-18, 2-8 CC) surged to a 33-26 first-half edge, but the Warriors (15-6, 7-2) cut the margin to 33-29 at the break as a result of a 40-foot buzzer-beating heave by Jessica
Steigleman.
Steigelman went on to score 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second period, and the 6-foot freshman forward also compiled seven assists, five steals and five rebounds.
Sophomore forward Andi Peterson led the Raiders with 21 points, while junior post Kailee Short grabbed 12 rebounds and scored eight.
Former Phoenix High star Kat Cox scored 11 and hauled in six rebounds.
Southerns 10-for-33 second-half shooting (30 percent) coupled with WBCs 48-percent overall efficiency (33 of 69) doomed SOU to its fifth consecutive setback.
