The North Medford softball team was one out away from recording its first Southwest Conference win on Monday.
Grants Pass, however, had other plans as the sixth-ranked Cavers rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning, then pulled away with three runs in the 10th to seal a 4-1 victory in the opener of a doubleheader at Fagone Field. Grants Pass completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.
The twin bill was a makeup of a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday that was postponed due to rain.
Compounding the difficult pair of defeats, the Black Tornado (5-7, 0-3 SWC) also lost its lead-off hitter — first-team all-state outfielder Katie Gould — to a knee injury in the first inning of Game 1. The senior center fielder missed the remainder of the day, and the extent of the injury is not yet known.
"That was tough," said North coach Mike Mayben of Gould's injury. "Things might have been different if we had her speed for those games."

In the 10th, a pair of North Medford errors and RBIs from Emily Woolf and Tara Glover proved to be the difference.
Barnes had 11 strikeouts to record the win, while Chamberlain went 2-for-4.
Kaci Sevano provided North's only run with an RBI single that scored Jenna Stevens in the first inning.
In Game 2, Glover, Karleigh Prestianni, Hannah Fischer, Lindy Sippola and Emily Woolf each had two hits to lead Grants Pass' 14-hit attack.
Amanda Volgarino went 2-for-3 to lead the Tornado.
