Earl L. Pennington
The graveside service for Earl L. Pennington will be at 10
a.m. Monday in Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Pennington, 60, of White City, died Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at Providence Medford
Medical Center.

He was born April 27, 1939, in Kelso, Wash.
Mr. Pennington was an antique restorer for Hippo Hardware in Portland. He moved to the
Rogue Valley in 1997.
He served in the Army from 1956 to 1959, and in the Air Force from 1960 to 1961.
Mr. Pennington enjoyed arts, crafts and coin collecting.
Survivors include a daughter, Heidi Aurand, Woodbine, Ga.; a brother, Carl, Seattle; a
sister, Barbara Nelson, Phoenix, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Mary A. Ulett
Mary A. Ulett, 68, of Central Point, died June 4, 1999, at
her home. No local service is planned.

She was born Mary Skelton on Feb. 13, 1931, in Norman, Okla. She moved to the Rogue
Valley in 1952.
She married Bill Ulett, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ulett was an artist and seamstress.
Survivors include a son, Ron Dorsey, Roseburg; a daughter, Katz DeLauney, Deer Lodge,
Mont.; a stepson, Doug Dunn, Medford; a stepdaughter, Barbara Munsey, Medford; and five
grandchildren.

Fred Kaufman Jr.
The graveside service for Fred Kaufman Jr. will be at 11
a.m. Saturday in Logtown Cemetery in Jacksonville. Pastor Kurt Krowel of Applegate
Community Church will officiate. Interment will be in Logtown Cemetery.
Mr. Kaufman, 55, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday (June 9, 1999) at his home.

He was born Dec. 29, 1943, in San Bernardino, Calif.
On May 26, 1962, in Las Vegas, he married Charrie A. Ayres, who survives. He moved to
the Rogue Valley in 1976.
Mr. Kaufman was a journeyman lineman for the City of Los Angeles Water & Power Co.
for 13 years. In the Rogue Valley, he worked for Pacific Power & Light Co. for more
than 22 years.
He enjoyed playing handball, sports, nature, and trips to the mountains to cut wood.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Tonja Johnson, Central Point;
his mother, Jeanette Pierce, Nampa, Idaho; a brother, Rick, Carmel, Calif.; two sisters,
Penny Adams, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Kitty Aguilera, Redlands, Calif.; and three
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Kaufman, in 1982.

Velma K. Slessler
The memorial service for Velma K. Slessler will be at 4

Mrs. Slessler, 85, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at Rogue Valley Manor Health
Center.

She was born Velma K. Lowery on May 13, 1911, in Dorrenston, Pa.
On June 16, 1934, she married Cameron Slessler, who preceded her in death. She moved to
the Rogue Valley in 1949 from Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Slessler was a registered nurse at Providence Hospital.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Larry, Medford; two daughters, Linda Magstadt, Newport Beach,
Calif., and Lois Huetten, Dallas, Texas; a brother, Ralph Lowery, Phoenix, Ariz.; nine
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Harriet Burg Carder
The memorial service for Harriet Burg Carder will be at 3

Mrs. Carder, 96, of Medford, died Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at Rogue Valley Manor Health

She was born Harriet Burg on Sept. 28, 1902, in Dallas City, Ill.
On Aug. 1, 1942, in Los Angeles, she married Dean Samuel Carder, who died in 1973. She
moved to Ashland in 1971 from Richmond, Calif.
Mrs. Carder was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Ashland.
She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Alan, Brawley, Calif.; a daughter, Laura Carder, Anaheim,
Calif.; a stepson; a brother, Anton Burg, and a sister, Margaret Dauer, both in Southern
California.

Thelma C. McIntyre
The funeral for Thelma Christina McIntyre will be at 11
a.m. Monday in the Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Interment will be in Jacksonville
Cemetery.
Mrs. McIntyre, 94, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday (June 9, 1999) in Medford.

She was born Thelma Christina Yocom on Jan. 7, 1905, in Central Point, a daughter of
Samuel F. and Pluma Z. (Brayton-Carter) Yocom.
On April 14, 1925, in Jacksonville, she married Joseph Earl McIntyre, who died in 1974.
She lived in the Rogue Valley all of her life.
Mrs. McIntyre was the chief deputy clerk for the city of Medford for 25 years. She also
owned and operated The Nugget Cafe in Jacksonville. She cooked at Camp White and for
several restaurants in the Rogue Valley.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors.
Mrs. McIntyre enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening.
Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Green and Dorna Grow, both Jacksonville, and
Wilma Bray, Florence; a son, Maurice, Florence; a stepbrother, Warren Guches, Wimer; seven
grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by two brothers, Lyle and Thomas Yocom; and a sister, Elsie H. Dollarhide.
Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Conger-Morris in
Medford.
Mildred N. Miller
Mildred Naomi Miller, 93, of Medford, died Wednesday (June
9, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No service is planned.
She was born Mildred Naomi Voyles on April 12, 1906, in Missouri.
In 1925, in Omaha, Neb., she married Earl R. Howland. They later divorced.
In 1933, in Omaha, she married Max Miller, who died in 1975.
Survivors include six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a son, Earl W. Howland; and a daughter, Dorothy Dobas.

'Gordy' Hatch
The graveside service for Gordon L. "Gordy" Hatch
will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn
will officiate.
Mr. Hatch, 84, of Rogue River, died Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at his home.
He was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Rogue River. He lived in Rogue River all his life.
On March 8, 1944, in Honolulu, he married Wilda Mayfield, who survives.
Mr. Hatch worked at the Magnolia Mill in Rogue River. He also worked with Peter Kewitt
Construction, helping to build Interstate 5 from Grants Pass to Ashland.
During World War II, he served in the Civil Service for four years, stationed in
Honolulu and Midway.
Mr. Hatch enjoyed fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening and playing the piano.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Roger, Grants Pass, and Russell,
Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Irene Shepherd, Grants Pass, and Janell Weide, Eagle
Point; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
three brothers, Arlie, Stuart and Lyndon.
