William Wellwood Shurtz



William "Bill" Shurtz, 83, died May 13, 2007, at Farmington Square in Medford. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 22, at Ascension Lutheran Church at 11 a.m.

He was born on January 21, 1924, in Davenport, Iowa the son of Edward and Blanche Shurtz. He was a graduate of Webb School and Occidental College. Bill served in the Navy for almost three years during WWII as a radioman. He then started with the J.C.Penny Stores and retired from the Medford store.



After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Gunny, throughout Europe, the Americas, and the South Pacific.



He was a member of the Rotary Club.



Survivors include: children, Karen Parrish of Mercer Island, Wash., Bill Jr. of Medford, and Patty Jurkovich of Porterville, Calif.; plus six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife.
