An Eagle Point woman landed in jail and her baby is in protective custody after an alleged drunken drive down Medford’s Eighth Street in a motor home ended on the sidewalk outside the post office.

A Medford woman called police from the Medford post office at about 6:15 p.m. Monday to report that her 2000 Toyota Corolla parked on Eighth Street had just been sideswiped by a motor home, which continued down the block. The 1976 Dodge motor home turned onto Holly Street and pulled onto the sidewalk in front of the post office, police reports said.

Officers walked from the police station across the street to the crash scene, Medford police Lt. Tim Doney said. The driver of the motor home, Susan LeAnne Oliver, 39, of the 600 block of Leafwood Drive, Eagle Point, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants, Doney said.

As police took her into custody, she told officers that her 7-month-old son was in the motor home, Doney said. Police found the boy wasn’t buckled into a child safety seat, and they also charged Oliver with recklessly endangering another. She was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where she remained this afternoon on $8,000 bail.

The baby boy was taken into protective custody by child welfare workers with the state Department of Human Services.
