Takelma tribe elder Agnes Baker-Pilgrim conducts a river and salmon blessing on the Applegate River tonight.

The event, organized by S.A.V.E., a project of the North Applegate Watershed Protection Association, is set at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Bridge Park, 15095 Highway 238, Applegate. It’s open to anyone interested in attending.

Baker-Pilgrim will conduct a “sacred salmon ceremony” during the hour-long event, and storyteller, author and teacher Thomas Doty will present a story.

The North Applegate Watershed Protection Association is made up of citizens concerned about approval of the nearby Krouse Bar mining project.
