Jack R. Young



Jack R. Young, 65, a resident of Medford, Ore., passed away on June 14th, 2007 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Young has requested that no services are to be held. He requested a potluck gathering of his family and friends. This will be held on July 14th, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the home of his brother, Brad, 605 Reiten Dr., Ashland, Ore. For directions please call a member of the family. Jack was born in Grants Pass, Ore. on December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day, to Homer B. and Daisy J.Young. He married Mary E. (St. Arnold) on April 2nd, 1966. They resided in Medford, Oregon City, Klamath Falls and finally moved to Medford again in July of 2006. After graduating from Medford High school in 1960, he served 5 years in the U.S. Navy, spending much of that time on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. After an honorable discharge he returned home in 1965. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Medford. He most recently worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Klamath Falls until retiring in 2000. After retiring he drove school bus for the Klamath Falls City School District and OCDC. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his grandkids, tinkering around the house, camping, fishing, telling jokes and stories, working on cars, including restoring a '56 Chevy and a '30 Model A. He was a very caring person with a great sense of humor; and although he had his quirks, everyone who met him was touched for life. People always said they would adopt him as a grandparent.



Jack is survived by his wife, of 41 years, Mary; his daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Bob Phillips, Rayette and Bruce Hesla; son, Dwayne Young; five grandkids, Bobby, Dustin, Shaina, Kayla and Tanisha; sister, Wilma Nelson; brothers and sister-in-law, Brad and Alice Young and Don Young; special friends, Bill Noble, Bob Mejia, Mike Higday and Darreld Dunlap; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. A special thanks to all of the doctors and staff that helped take care of Jack over the past few years.
