SALEM — An ethics panel voted today to investigate allegations that state Rep. Dennis Richardson, R-Central Point, violated expenditure reporting laws.

The vote by the Oregon Government Standards and Practices Commission was unanimous.

The case is unusual in that the lawmaker supplied information voluntarily with amended reports.

Richardson said he acted “out of a sense of caution” following a round of charges earlier this year against legislators. He said he didn’t believe the disclosures were necessary because the expenses he received did not come from individuals or organizations with issues before the Legislature. An investigator concluded otherwise and recommended that the issue be pursued.

Richardson accepted expenses for six conferences and seminars he attended beginning in 2003.
