Assault — Vicente Nabor Garcia, 22, of the 1700 block of Dove Lane, Medford. Medford police arrested Garcia Friday on charges of felony fourth-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, harassment and strangulation. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail where he remained late Friday in lieu of $16,000 bail.Assault — Maurice Armand Chizer, 41, of an unknown address. Jackson County sheriff's deputies arrested Chizer on charges of fourth-degree felony assault and harassment. He was lodged in jail, where he remained late Friday in lieu of $8,000 bail. Drugs — Denise Louise Petsche, 53, of the 100 block of Access Road, Gold Hill. Petsche was booked in Jackson County Circuit Court on a charge of possession of methamphetamine and reported to the work center. Vehicle theft — James Eugene Jackson, 35, of the 1000 block of W. 10th St., Medford. Medford police arrested Jackson Friday on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was lodged in jail, where remained late Friday in lieu of $5,000 bail. Fugitive, drugs — Richard Moore Smith III, of an unknown address. Medford police arrested Smith, a California fugitive, Friday on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to appear in court on charges of five counts of possession of methamphetamine and one count of second-degree theft. He was lodged in jail without bail.

A motor-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Stage and Griffin Creek roads at about 5:30 p.m. Friday knocked out power and phone service for 10 minutes at 19 residences.

The driver of a white SUV, Daniel Myers, 18, of Jacksonville, struck a power pole and tree as he was traveling eastbound on South Stage.

Firefighters had to extricate him through the roof of the vehicle, said Medford Fire Battalion Chief Kurt Bennett. Myers was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition late Friday, hospital officials said.
