Josephine County Sheriff's Office has called off a search for a missing 41-year-old man who was reportedly swimming in the Rogue River below Chinook Park.

Emergency responders began the search Friday after receiving a call at 3:30 p.m. that Craig Alexander McCoogan, who was swimming in the river, had been calling for help.

The sheriff's Search and Rescue Dive Team, American Medical Response, Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and a helicopter from Rogue Helicopters scoured the river between Chinook Park and the All-Sports Park Friday and Saturday. They were unable to locate McCoogan.

A preliminary investigation indicated McCoogan was not wearing a personal flotation device and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his disappearance.

McCoogan, a transient, is a 6-foot-3 white male weighing 240 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about McCoogan is asked to called the Josephine County Sheriff's Office at 474-5114.
