The Medford Police Department will conduct a crosswalk sting operation today to encourage drivers to yield to pedestrian traffic.

The operation lasts from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the crosswalk at Jackson Street and Gennessee Street in Medford.

Citations will be issued for failing to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and for any other traffic infractions.

In intersections without electronic traffic control devices, state law requires drivers to stop for pedestrians on a crosswalk in their respective traffic lane or the adjacent lane. At crosswalks powered by a traffic light, drivers are expected to yield when a pedestrian is in their respective lane or within 6 feet of the adjacent lane. For details, call the Medford Police Traffic Division at 618-1841.
