Central Point police are investigating more than 50 complaints of windows shot out by a BB or pellet gun.

Most of the broken windows are in vehicles, but several homes also have been hit, Central Point police Sgt. Jeff Britton said. The damage is scattered around the city.

“It’s citywide,” he said. “There’s no set pattern at all.”

The first flurry of reports came in late June 1 and in the morning of June 2. Another round of calls reporting broken windows started Monday about 10 p.m. and officers were still responding to new calls this afternoon, Britton said.

By mid-morning they had 52 cases this month with damage estimated at a total of $12,700, he said. Investigators believe all the cases are related and are investigating the two sprees as a felony.

A small, black import vehicle was seen speeding away from one street where damage was reported, Britton said. Police consider it “a vehicle of interest.”

Police ask anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has other information about the damage to call Detective Kris Allison at 664-5578.
