CENTRAL POINT — Police are investigating more than 50 complaints of windows shot out with a BB or pellet gun.

Most of the broken windows are in vehicles, but several homes also have been hit — one twice, Central Point police Sgt. Jeff Britton said. The damage is scattered around the city.

"It's citywide," he said. "There's no set pattern at all."

The first flurry of reports came in late on June 1 and the morning of June 2. Another round of calls reporting broken windows started Monday at about 10 p.m., and officers were still responding to new calls Tuesday afternoon, Britton said.

By midmorning Tuesday they had 52 cases for the month with damage estimated at $12,700, he said. Investigators believe all the cases are related and are investigating the two sprees as a felony.

A small, black import vehicle was seen speeding away from one street where damage was reported, Britton said. Police consider it "a vehicle of interest."

Medford police said they have seen numerous broken-window complaints this month, too. Investigators believe car windows are being broken by BBs or rocks.

Police ask anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has other information about the damage in Central Point to call Detective Kris Allison at 664-5578.
