Work crews shift construction to the north side of Barnett Road between Highland and Ellendale, tangling traffic today.

Crews have completed work on the south side of Barnett, adding a new curb, gutters and sidewalk. As they move to the north side of the project, they plan to stripe lanes on the south side of the road to divert traffic.

Single lanes going east and westbound will be available most of the day. However, crews may have to stop traffic entirely at times to complete striping, officials said.

The work on Barnett is one piece of a $70 million project by Oregon Department of Transportation and the city of Medford designed to improve safety and traffic flow in the area. The centerpiece of the project is construction of a new Interstate 5 interchange. The Barnett project is slated to wrap up in about six months.
