THE DALLES — Jordan Lewis finally gave up his first earned run of season but the Medford Mustangs still swept by the Columbia Gorge Hustlers in an American Legion AAA baseball doubleheader on Wednesday.

Lewis, a senior-to-be at Phoenix High, gave up six hits and yielded just the one run — a solo homer — as the Mustangs rolled to a 12-1 victory in the opener. Medford completed the sweep with a 10-7 triumph in Game 2.

Lewis, who improved to 4-0, fanned seven to give him 43 strikeouts in 30 innings this summer.

Medford sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs to break the game open in the seventh inning. Darren Bruhns hit a three-run triple and Mark Austad ripped a two-run single to key the attack.

Bruhns was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Logan Odom went 3-for-5 and Jordan Bostwick was 2-for-3.

The Mustangs again used a seven-run inning in the nightcap, this time in the sixth, to pull away. Zack Earle led the onslaught with two RBI doubles in the frame.

Earle went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Odom, Trent Smith and Bruhns each had two hits.

Shea Bedortha improved to 4-0 on the mound.

Medford (14-6) will play a split doubleheader today. The Mustangs visit East County out of Sandy at 10 a.m., then play at Lake Oswego at 1 p.m.
