District 6 champion Medford will play either Sisters or Murray Hill tonight at 7 in the title contest of the double-elimination tournament.

Isaiah Luzny went 2-for-3 and Julian Gray was 1-for-2 to pace Medford, which improved to 3-0 at the state tournament.

Softball

LIGHTNING 2, THUNDER 0 — At Eugene, South Medford High's Jessica Mondale tossed a complete-game shutout to help the Eugene-based Lightning slip past the Portland Thunder in the championship game of the ASA 18-under A state softball tournament on Sunday.

With the win, the Lightning qualified for the national tournament held Aug. 1-5 in Lancaster, Calif.

Samantha Matarese, also of South Medford, provided three sparkling defensive plays in the outfield, including a catch at the fence that robbed Portland of a home run.

Fellow South Medford standout Kinzie Towry batted just under .500 for the tournament.
