Frances G. Byars



Frances G. Byars, 83, died July 16, 2007 of causes related to age. She was born in 1923, in Great Falls, Montana, one of eight children born to William and Priscilla (Goodreau) Worsley. The family eventually moved to Yakima, Wash., where Frances graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, a Catholic high school for girls.



In 1943, she married Paul Emil Desmarais of Moxee City, Wash. Frances was widowed in April, 1945, when her husband was killed in action in Okinawa, Japan. She returned to Yakima, where she raised her daughter near her family.



She married Don Byars of Goldendale, Wash. in 1960. They moved to Eugene, Ore. and eventually settled in Junction City on their hilltop property. Frances and her husband were co-owners of Don Byars GMC in Junction City.



Frances was always an active member in her church wherever she lived. She was a member of Young Ladies' Institute, Altar Society and Soroptomist, assuming leadership roles and generously giving of her time. She enjoyed entertaining, gourmet cooking, all kinds of crafts and international travel.



She is survived by a daughter, Paulette Graham of Talent; step-sons, John and Brian Byars, living in Washington; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Dimond of Ocean Park, Wash.; and William Worsley of Vancouver, Wash.



A funeral mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. on July 23, 2007 at Sacred Heart Church, S. Oakdale and 11th Avenue in Medford.
